YouTube Uploader Supports Resumable Media Upload Now

YouTube uploader

On July 13, Google employee David announced in YouTube Help forum that YouTube begins to support resumable media upload. Now you can resume your video upload from an Internet connection problem or a browser crash and don't need to restart the upload.

The brand new feature only works in Chrome and Firefox 4 or higher.

David explained this in the post that:
This means if you have a supported browser (Chrome or FF4+), you can upload, pull the plug, resume, and expect it to pick up from where it left off. In our testing the resumability is consistently more reliable than the java uploader. As I have mentioned before, we plan to get rid of the Java uploader entirely once we are truly confident in the effectiveness of this. Anyway, I will provide some updates once this is actually live later today.

I'm having rejoice with this new feature in the YouTube uploader tool.

YouTube Test Cosmic Panda - the Hulu-esque New Interface

Recently, YouTube is encouraging users to help test its new interface, titled "Cosmic Panda". People said that part of the new interface look like Hulu website. So far, this interface update will be the biggest update in YouTube's history. If you are interested in testing the new YouTube design, you can go to http://www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda and click "Try it out!" This news was first reported on YouTube official blog by YouTube Product Manager Noam Lovinsky.

Three parts in the new look will be significantly different: videos, playlists and channels. I will list the screenshot of these new layouts below.

1. Videos' new look features Hulu-esque black background and giant advertisement on the right side of the player:

2. Screengrab of Channel in the new look:

3. New playlist:

Cosmic Panda is part of YouTube's TestTube project, which serves as the site's test section where users can test the site's latest features or tools. The last major in YouTube interface design was launched in January 2010, when the video pages were streamlined and the starred rating system was nixed.

YouTube Tests New Black Player Skin

YouTube video player turns black

YouTube video player's default color is always white. We've seen video players in other colors in many video websites, for example, video players of MTV.com and dailymotion.com are black. Some famous web video players, such as flowplayer and JW FLV player, offer their users the option to change the player skin's color. So, are you tired of the skin of YouTube's video player?

Recently, part of Internet users find that the YouTube player's control bar turns to black while they're watching YouTube videos, just as the above picture shown. This new YouTube player skin features dark colors, such as black and grey. So how do you like the new YouTube player?

Personally, I like it. It looks cool!

The Crossed Out Words in YouTube Search Queries

YouTube search keywords crossed out
Sometimes when you enter some words into the search box in YouTube to search videos, you will find that some of the keywords are crossed out, as the picture shown above.

YouTube doesn't elaborate why this happens. Below are some conclusions that I draw from analytics:
  1. The crossed out words have no search result.
  2. The crossed out words are not related to the search session.
  3. The crossed out words are useless or needless which implies you that do not use those keywords in later search.

This feature is nice. But I don't think it's suitable for Google search, as it's almost impossible to find keywords that have no search result in Google search.

YouTube Begins to Teach its Partners to Get Videos Viral

YouTube news
Previously in this March, Google's subsidiary YouTube acquired video production team Next New Networks to help their partners to create more attractive, high quality and viral videos. It seems that YouTube is very eager to its video quality. According to The New York Times, YouTube makes another move toward some excellent video creators – to teach them the video making skills.

YouTube called up some video partners to New York to teach them some tricks and skills about how to create viral videos. Some tricks are seemingly rather useful, such as don't upload your videos to YouTube on Friday afternoon and contact key bloggers via Email to ask them to post a link to your video. By doing this, video creators can bring out more viral videos and drive higher traffic to YouTube, so that YouTube can earn more money from video advertising, which is the reason why YouTube made this boot camp for their partners.

So far few people can make six figures income a year purely from video making. It's very difficult to directly make big money from video. A good viral video needs several things: good idea, video editing skills and some relevant equipment. So YouTube needs to solve these problems for its video contributors, so that they have the motivation and money to generate more high quality videos.

YouTube Celebrates Its Sixth Birthday and Declares Some Statistics

Did you remember when did YouTube launch? Six years has gone since YouTube began its video broadcasting service. The Google subsidiary celebrates its sixth birthday this month on its official blog. It's no doubt that YouTube has dominated the online video content service for a long time. The YouTube Team is very proud of this. They release some statistics to honor the sixth birthday and some achievements have made on the blog.

Below are the whopping statistics they release.

1. Currently, YouTube globally receives 3 billion views every single day, which has grown by 50 percent during the past 365 days. "That's the equivalent of nearly half the world's population watching a YouTube video each day", as YouTube official blog described.

2. Last month, United States Internet users yielded 5.1 billion video playback times on YouTube. "[..]every U.S. resident watching at least nine videos a day", the announcement blog post said.

3. Each minute, over 48 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube, or a 100 percent increase during the past 12 months.

The YouTube Team generalizes 3 reasons attributed to the above great achievements:

1. Faster processing of uploads.
2. Longer upload lengths.
3. Live streaming events, such as the Royal Wedding.

Happy Birthday to YouTube and wish it offers more high quality content to our audience!

Here is the first ever video posted on YouTube. It was dubbed 'Me at the zoo' showing YouTube's co-founder Jawed Karim speaking in front of elephants at a zoo. You can download it with this YouTube Download software.

YouTube 100 Tells You the Hottest YouTube Music

YouTube 100 music chart
Something amazing happened on YouTube two days ago. It's YouTube 100 - a weekly updated chart used for showing the top 100 popular music content streamed on the Google-owned video site. The chart launched on YouTube Music just a couple of hours ago. YouTube Music Product Manager Chris LaRosa announced the news on YouTube Official Blog.

"The YouTube 100 measures song traffic across official music videos, user-uploaded videos and viral debuts..", LaRosa said. So the chart counts not only fame pop singers' songs, but also music works from amateurs, which is the major difference among some existing music charts, such as Billboard Hot 100 and VEVO's charts. Everyone has the chance to shine their new idea in their music videos whether it's viral debut, a parody, remix of an existing song or your own version of a song or a music video. For example, I find a fan-made video showing lyrics of Adele's Someone Like You at No.42 on the chart.

This week, Pop Queen Lady Gaga's music video 'Judas' is at the second place on the YouTube 100 chart and Bruno Mars's 'The Lazy Song' music video is at No.5. Jennifer Lopez's 'On The Floor' tops the chart and Rebecca Black's 'Friday' is in the top 10. Check this YouTube Downloader if you want to download them to your computer.

The YouTube 100 music chart offers a better way for uses to track song popularity. What's more, it offers more chances to not only professional singes but also music fans to show their music works. I appreciate the chart and expect more great features from YouTube in the future.

YouTube had been working on helping users to discover popular and trending videos on the site. For example, in January this year, YouTube Acquired Fflick to help users discover and share hot videos from social media sites.

YouTube Doodle Reminds You to Turn Off the Light for the Earth Hour

Yesterday is the day for 'Earth Hour'. Accordingly, YouTube changed its doodle to meet the activity. And what made it interesting is that a 'light switch' button was added to YouTube video playback page. Once you click the button, the page would turn dark so that you could focus on the video playback, which had the same effect as other extensions.

What is Earth Hour?
According to Wikipedia, Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth Hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2011 took place on March 26, 2011 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at participants' local time.

YouTube Offers Video Editing Service That Enables Users to Make Video by Themselves

YouTube Create Video Portal
A few days ago YouTube has offered users the video making service, which enables users to make video by themselves without recording equipment such as video camera.

YouTube users could go to YouTube Create Videos Portal and choose video editing tools from Stupeflix, Xtranormal or GoAnimate to monetize your own videos. So far the third-party tools mentioned above have been integrated into YouTube, so users could just go to the video editing page to start the video production process for free. Besides, Freemium options (more audio effects, animated videos features) are also available as long as you pay for them.

YouTube said that they are just to provide the opportunity to users to make their own videos and has no financial relationship with the third-party application partners.

If you want to download videos from YouTube, you can check out this YouTube downloader. Mac users can check YouTube Downloader for Mac.

Beginning from today, YouTube would enable the videos you shoot with handheld devices look more stable and smoother. Just as YouTube has imported an image stabilization tool, which could reduce the shakiness in video, no matter from walking or riding.

The tool has been integrated in YouTube Video Editor, which was introduced to YouTube in last summer. Previously, YouTube Video Editor could just trim video, adjust brightness and contrast, add subtitles, merge multiple videos into one and add transition Flash. Now with the newly added image stabilization feature, you don’t have to use any third-party video editing software to do the same thing anymore.

Here is the sample video processed by the Image Stabilization tool. You could use this YouTube video downloader software to download the it to your computer.
